Our students develop hands-on experience with employers through either industry placements or work experience.
Typically, work experience is short-term, lasting for a few days or weeks. Meanwhile, industry placements are longer-term. Often students will attend placement one day per week throughout the academic year.
Industry placements are integral to certain courses, for instance, T Levels usually require a minimum of 315 hours of experience.
You'll experience lots of benefits by offering an industry placement/work experience opportunity.
We offer a wide range of subjects, most of which require an element of work experience or an industry placement.
From Agriculture to Art and Design, explore our subjects.
The majority of work experience is undertaken by students on Level 3 courses (including T Levels) and by foundation degree students, who require placements to complete their courses. However, students from other courses may also wish to develop their experience.
All of our students are supported in preparing themselves for employment through the delivery of employability skills embedded into the curriculum. These skills will help to ensure that they have a successful placement with you.
Our Work Experience Coordinators work closely with employers to make sure that opportunities are mutually beneficial. If you are interested, please email servicestobusiness@bishopburton.ac.uk and the team will discuss the possibilities with you.
You would need to be able to offer a safe and healthy workplace to support a quality placement. This includes suitable staff to supervise students and the development of a work plan that a student could be involved in.
We work hard to match our students with appropriate placements. Once you have a match, we will support you to complete the relevant documentation, ensure the student is work ready and will manage their expectations about the role, as well as behaviours required in the workplace.
We will review your safe working practices with you to ensure you are able to support a high-quality placement and will check in at key points to review the student’s progress and achievements.
Every year we are looking to inspire our students by having the opportunity to meet and network with potential employers. We see this as an essential part of our students’ career planning. If you feel able to support any future careers/employability events or offer site visits and guest lectures/talks or workshops to particular groups of students, and have not already got established contacts within our academic departments, please email careers@bishopburton.ac.uk.
