Practical vs Theory

This level one course is a Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies, with specialist units in Childcare and Health included. You will study core employability units where you will gain key, transferable skills with other learners studying level one programmes in the general further education department.

You will also be able to specialise in Childcare and Health, giving you the specialist skills and knowledge needed to progress to Level 2.

The course recognises the importance of developing core skills through practical, creative activities, along with beginning to build your industry relevant skills.

Course Information

  • Provide you with the basic knowledge and understanding of the healthcare, social care, childcare and education sectors, along with developing core, transferable employability skills.
  • Help you to choose your preferred sector to further your studies at Level 2.

You will need GCSEs at grade 1 or 2, including English and Maths, a passion for the subject and one satisfactory reference.

You will learn through a mixture of practical and theory sessions. Your learning will be enhanced by guest speakers, visits and links to placement opportunities.

You will normally in college three days a week.

You will need to undertake 30 hours of work experience.
You will be assessed through assignments and practical tasks.
If you wish to further your studies you can progress to a Level 2 course in Health and Social Care or Childcare.
Work in nurseries, care homes, children's play centres, schools, childminding, within at home care services, as a counselling assistant and many more.
