The course

Are you a spray operator or pest control technician? If so, this course has been designed for you, providing you with a certificate of competence for pesticide spraying.

An online assessment takes place after the course, for which candidates will need to read information, write notes and answer multiple choice questions.

Passing this unit is required before any other pesticide course can be taken.

Course Information

  • Provide you with an understanding of the four most commonly used pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and plant growth regulators
  • Enable you to identify key aspects of legislation that apply to the use of pesticides
  • Enable you to identify the precautions necessary to use a product safely, using product label information
  • Enable you to identify, select and understand the maintenance and storage of the correct personal protective equipment for use with a particular product as determined by a label and/or COSHH risk assessment
  • Ensure that you follow appropriate personal hygiene procedures to prevent personal contamination
  • Ensure that you follow the appropriate procedures for dealing with accidental personal contamination
  • Understand the correct procedures for the storage of pesticides
  • Provide you with an understanding of the correct procedures for the disposal of empty pesticide containers, surplus pesticide and washings
  • Help you to understand the records that must be kept
  • Develop your understanding of the situations where pesticide application may pose a risk to people or the environment

You will need to be a minimum of 16 years old. There are no other formal entry requirements.

You will be required to be on campus for one day to complete the course and online assessment.

This course costs £234 per person.
