The course
If you want to learn how to safely drive a tractor, about pre-use maintenance and safety checks, as well as how to recognise controls and instruments, this course is for you.
This qualification is issued for life, however NPTC recommends that refresher training is carried out every three to four years.
Course Information
- Identifying hazards specific to the site, task and machine
- Identifying and explaining the function of all instruments and controls on the machine
- Carrying out daily pre-use checks to the tractor
- Demonstrating knowledge of potential hazards that could arise when using a tractor and the correct procedure/precautions to be observed when driving with heavily loaded trailers and implements
- Mounting the vehicle, carrying out safety checks and starting the engine
- Using a tractor on or near the public highway or other areas to which the public has access
- Hitching a tractor to a trailer and connecting hydraulic coupling(s)
- Driving a tractor and trailer around a designated course as outlined by the assessor, to include negotiating corners, gear changing and reversing in a confined space
- Tipping the trailer, uncoupling and parking the tractor safely
- Attaching a three-point linkage implement to the tractor, observing safe practice at all times
- Attaching a PTO driven machine to the tractor and fitting a PTO shaft
- Factors to consider when using PTO shaft
You must be a minimum of 16 years old to take this course.
You will be required to be on campus for three days.
