Olivia Lunn, T Level Agriculture

T Level Agriculture (Livestock) student Olivia grew up on a farm and so was keen to follow in the footsteps of her family. She is able to work alongside her course and finds it helps to support her studies and allows her to get valuable experience.

"I looked at other land-based colleges but Bishop Burton stood out to me. I really liked that there was a T level option which I felt would be more suitable for me. We are outside doing practical sessions a lot, not just sat in a classroom. I am not the type of person to sit in a class room all the time, we can get out a bit too. Fridays we have off for work experience so I work on a dairy farm local to me and some days on a weekend too to get hours in and to help support my studies and keep me entertained. The farm I work on milk around 500 cows so it is pretty busy!

In the livestock lessons we learn a lot about general life on the farm and look more in depth at the anatomy and physiology of animals which is really interesting. In the other lessons we cover things like business management which is also good to know for future and great for if you hope to work on an existing farm or own or manage your own. We also cover things like health and safety which obviously we need to know how to be safe on a farm."

"I really enjoy that we can specialise in livestock on the course here at Bishop Burton and not just general farming. I really like the practical sessions and we have just halter trained the heifers so that was really fun, I loved doing that.

I grew up on a farm and we have a lot of livestock so it just made sense to me to do this course and I love it."
