Bishop Burton College and Humberside Police Force announce exclusive partnership

6 Apr 2021 | College

The agreement means that students who study with us will benefit from industry led employability workshops, delivered by Humberside Police Force employees.

Our students will benefit from a variety of workshops which will cover a broad range of topics, including hostage negotiation, forensics, armed response, covert operations and dog handling, as well as many other key roles and skills.

Teaching will be delivered with a mix of theory and practical experiences. Our students will gain access to guest speaking / observation opportunities, as well as being able to take part in training sessions as ‘scenario participants’. An important aspect of the partnership is work experience - students are guaranteed opportunities to complete enhanced work experience with the specialist operations team in areas such as behavioural profiling, chemical and explosive testing, hazardous operations, riot training and counter terrorism, to name a few.

A recent increase in demand for Uniformed Public Service and related courses at the College, supported by a new Forensic and Criminology offer, has led to the creation of the official partner status. A brand-new Level 3 Policing qualification is also being launched in September this year, further enhancing the Public Service qualification provision at the College. Humberside Police have been actively involved in the development of this new qualification content, meaning that students will learn the relevant topics, skills and knowledge which are high on the Force’s agenda.

Bill Meredith, Principal and CEO at Bishop Burton College said,

“We are delighted to be able to work so closely with Humberside Police Force. The partnership solidifies our relationship and presents unique and exclusive opportunities for our students. We are excited about the future of this relationship and on behalf of our students, our staff, wider College community and Humberside Police Force.”

Ruth Campion, Search Lead and Police Search Adviser for Humberside Police said;

“We are delighted to announce our official partnership with Bishop Burton College. We have developed a programme with Bishop Burton which will ensure that all students will get to experience over 30 job opportunities within the special operations unit. The knowledge and skills gained from working with both the College staff and the Police Force, will give students a fantastic insight into the special operations division and really prepare them for a career within the Force.”
