Bishop Burton College was delighted to host the Archbishop of York during his visit to the region.
Archbishop Stephen was in East Yorkshire as part of his Lord’s Prayer Tour, which included an evening event of reflection and music at Hull Minster.
He was given a tour of the college campus and met and chatted to students and staff over lunch during his visit.
Archbishop Stephen was also presented with a decorative metal sculpture of the Yorkshire Rose that had been created for him by engineering students.
Archbishop Stephen said: “It was a real pleasure to visit Bishop Burton College, and I want to thank everyone who made us so welcome.
“I was impressed that the college’s first value is enjoyment, and this was evident as we met staff and students.
“Seeing snakes close up in the Animal Management Unit was a first for me, and it was fantastic to see the work and craftmanship of students at the Centre for Creative Studies.
“I would like to give thanks to the engineering students and staff who presented us with a metal sculpture of the Yorkshire Rose, which is a striking piece of art. We’ll find a home for it in the grounds of Bishopthorpe Palace for all to enjoy.”

Danny Metters, Principal and CEO of Bishop Burton College, said: “It was an absolute honour to host the Archbishop of York at the college as part of his regional visit.
“We were incredibly proud to showcase our exceptional campus facilities, including our specialist Animal Management Unit, Technology and Skills Centre and our Centre for Creative Studies, while introducing Archbishop Stephen to our dedicated students and staff.
“It was a privilege to have such a distinguished guest on campus, and we sincerely hope Archbishop Stephen enjoyed his visit as much as we did.”
