Former colleagues celebrate at Bishop Burton College

Past and present staff gathered at a special reunion event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Bishop Burton College.
The successful reunion brought together over one hundred and fifty people, staff and their partners. There was a surprising and welcome return on the day for the symbolic College horse drawn plough, which had been especially restored by engineering students for the event.
Organisers and former staff members Martin Baxter, John Hickling and Simon Foster have been planning the event over the last twelve months. Simon said “The reunion provided the opportunity to remember all those staff who have served the College over the years. Many old friendships were reignited, happy memories and nostalgia created a wonderful atmosphere."
A large variety of college archive, not seen for many years, was on display, creating a lot of interest. The speakers included former Principal Howard Petch CBE and the current Principal Bill Meredith, who retires this summer.
Simon continued “I enjoyed so many rewarding years at Bishop Burton College, particularly having been there initially as a student of agriculture. They were some of the best years of my life. The staff are always at the heart of any organisation and to have so many of them return for this event demonstrates their great affection and the pride they have for the place”.
The College was established in 1954 as the East Riding Farm Institute and became a leading provider of training and education in the UK.
