My name is Samantha Barley and I undertook the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education course at the University Centre Bishop Burton.
It was actually brought to my attention that the UCBB provided a 2-year part-time PGCE course, which worked well in my favour as I was able to continue with my work commitments. This not only gave me the opportunity to progress onto my desired pathway of becoming a teacher but also allowed me to gain knowledge within the classroom whilst working as a cover teacher.
My experience of the PGCE course could be described as a rollercoaster, due to nearly having to drop out after the first year because of changes in job circumstances, which nearly affected my ability to complete the observation portion of the course requirements. However, after much perseverance and support, I was able to continue into the second year!
Throughout the 2 years on the course, the tutors have provided me and the rest of the students with endless support and help with assignments, from catering sessions to meet our needs and queries, to sending us literature to help us with our assignments.
Not only has this course allowed me to become an outstanding teacher, but it has also allowed me to meet a variety of new people from different sectors within education, whom I can call friends for life, as well as allowing me to develop invaluable skill sets. I would 100% recommend this course to anyone wanting to pursue a career in teaching!
