Studying for a farming degree at University Centre Bishop Burton (UCBB), you’ll be learning in a specialist agricultural environment, which has outstanding facilities and is a centre of farming industry expertise.
Agriculture is where we have our roots. Our lecturers are passionate about making sure you develop the knowledge and skills you’ll need in the land-based industry.
As part of the Institute of Technology in Yorkshire and Humber, studying at UCBB will give you access to the latest precision agriculture technologies and farming solutions.
Take your skills to the next level, learning at our Centre for Precision Agriculture. You will have full access to our 360-hectare commercial farm, playing an essential role in helping us meet our target to become carbon net zero by 2030. The farm includes 120 hectares of arable, stabiliser cattle, a sheep flock and a state-of-the-art farrowing unit for pigs, developed in collaboration with White Rose Farms.

Meet your tutors
Jess Milner
Lecturer in Agriculture
UCBB’s resident livestock expert Jess is an experienced farmer, breeding pedigree Boer goats and managing her own flock of 300 sheep. Currently working towards a Master’s degree specialising in sustainable and efficient food production, she is also a driving force in our precision agriculture provision with the Institute of Technology.
Sharon Kirby
Higher Education Academic Lead for Land-Based
Sharon has been in agriculture all of her life, being the daughter of a farmer. Qualified up to Level 7 from University of Lincoln, Harper Adams and DeMontfort University, she is keen to introduce young people from non-traditional farming backgrounds to the world of agriculture and the opportunities within the sector.
With over 25 years of experience in education, Sharon leads our land-based department, encompassing Agriculture and Environmental Conservation. Her teaching interests include; record keeping for an agricultural business, agricultural marketing, global food production, business in wildlife and conservations and precision agriculture. Sharon's research interests include the use of technology in agriculture and its impact on farming businesses.
Sharon is a member of the Institute of Agricultural Management and a panel member of the Lincolnshire Young Farmers Association. She also sits on the Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology Research and CPD committee, as well as the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology Research and Innovation committee.
