Animal Sciences Degree Courses

Passionate about animals? Open a world of opportunities with an Animal Sciences degree.

Whether you want to work in animal care, training, welfare or conservation, University Centre Bishop Burton (UCBB) is a great place to start.

Our lecturers are experts in their fields, with many of them working in areas such as animal training and animal behaviour consultancy alongside their teaching commitments.

As a student here, you will develop a wide range of skills. There is a strong emphasis on applying theoretical knowledge to practical situations, using our excellent facilities.

Outstanding animal sciences facilities

Our BIAZA-registered Animal Management Centres house a huge range of species to give you the best hands-on learning experience. Species include primates, alpacas, marsupials, invertebrates, tropical fish, reptiles and rodents.

You will also have access to our specialist laboratories, commercial livestock enterprises and equine yards. We run commercial dog grooming facilities at both campuses, plus boarding kennels at Bishop Burton. If you choose to study at the Riseholme campus, you may have the opportunity to access the wider collection of animal species and facilities held at Bishop Burton campus, with transport provided within your study day.

Your studies will be enhanced with visits from external speakers and field trips. Our students have visited everywhere from Donna Nook Nature Reserve to ARTIS, Amsterdam’s Royal Zoo.

Fascinating field trips and strong industry links

Our Animal Management Academy provides additional activities to enrich your learning experience, including guest speakers and field trips. You’ll also benefit from our excellent industry links and work placement opportunities.

So, if you’re set on a career working with animals, check out our degree courses and join us at UCBB for an Open Event to see our excellent Animal Management Centre.

“I enjoy helping students to modify their perceptions of how animals and humans coexist. Getting into the mind of an animal, viewing the world from their perspective, and adapting our own habits, is vital to the future of the planet.”
