Melanie and Holly Travis

Mother and daughter, Melanie and Holly chose to study BA (Hons) Floristry and Design together to develop their brand and launch their own floristry business from their home studio.

Looking to get some formal training under their belt before they launched, the mother and daughter duo have not only expanded their technical and creative skills, they have also solidified their close bond and desires to build their own successful business.

"Being together on the course has definitely been motivational, I couldn’t imagine being on the course without my mum now. Even though I am independent and it sounds weird to say I go to uni with my mum, it’s been nice to support each other. She has been someone I can talk to and bounce ideas off of, a creative peer. We are hoping the course will lead to a fully fledged business that will support us both and we will have weddings in the summer season, maybe workshops at Christmas and some large-scale events."

"I think it is one of the most diverse courses in terms of age. It is really good as it opens up everyone’s thoughts in that sense about the mixed ages. Our group has been quite small but it meant we had that one-to-one tuition that we needed and the support of the tutor all along the way has been great. I have been in school environments where it has been easy to be forgotten about in a mass of pupils, but this type of learning has been really beneficial."

"I did worry when I first applied for the course that I would be the oldest person on it, but I wasn’t and it was nice to have that mix. I was welcomed in. Plus the campus is really lovely, we love walking around the walled gardens, it’s a nice relaxed feel."

We offer Floristry courses across all levels and to suit all abilities, from beginner short courses to advanced higher level qualifications such as the FdA Floristry Design and BA (Hons) Floristry Design
